Darah Zucker, a second grader at Mariposa School of Global Education, reflected on delivering sufganiot (jelly-filled donuts) on Chanukah. Congregation Or Ami delivers these sweet treats to every congregant household prior to the festival, with an invitation to join us for our community Chanukah service, a listing of resources to make Chanukah special, and a CD with music from our High Holy Day services. Volunteers deliver the boxes with smiles. Darah’s “Holiday Tradition” story was written for a school assignment. She chose the sufganiot (“donut”) delivery as her subject.
Her mother Kiren remarked, “We are so grateful, and so blessed, to be a part of the Or Ami community. May the light of Chanukah shine brightly on everyone.”
We are thrilled that this tradition touched her so much that she wanted to write about it. Congregation Or Ami also delivers Mishloach Manot – delicious, sweet hamantaschen – on Purim.
