I Held a Newborn Baby Today

I held a newborn baby today I simply can’t detach I held a newborn baby today My breath I still can’t catch I held that newborn babe today My heart is just so filled I held that newborn babe today As time itself stood still The world around me seemed to stop The rivers did not flow No birds were heard, no cars were seen The wind it ceased to blow I don’t know that much about this kid Don’t even know her name But when I held her in my arms I ceased to be the same Her lips so thin. Her hair so thick Her breathing soft and calm I bonded with her there and then Though I’m not her dad or mom But I watched as she grew in utero Kvelling each moment from nearby So since she lay here in my arms I find myself tongue tied I’ve forgotten much about my day Though it was sweet and overflowing Because I held that newborn baby today And my love for her is growing
