Prayer for Election Day

A prayer for all of us as we cast our ballots, wherever and however we vote.

Elohei HaTzedek (God of Justice),

As we cast our votes,

With hope for our children,

And concern for our country,

May conscience guide our choices,

Compassion shape our decisions,

And may we remember that our rights

Carry responsibilities to others.

Grant us Solomon’s wisdom

To discern beyond the slogans,

Miriam’s vision

To keep hope alive when despair takes hold,

And Nathan’s nerve

To speak truth to power.

Give us Deborah’s decisiveness

To lead when others hesitate,

Nachshon’s courage

To step forward when fear holds us back,

And Abraham’s audacity

To demand justice, even from the highest authority.

May our votes reflect our people’s ancient promise:

Tzedek, tzedek tirdof (Justice, justice shall you pursue) (Deut. 16:20).

May those entrusted with leadership

Act with integrity and humility (Micah 6:8),

Protect the vulnerable and welcome the stranger (Deut. 10:18–19),

Seek justice and pursue peace (Isaiah 1:17; Psalm 34:15).

And when the ballots are counted,

Whatever the outcome,

May hope inspire our hearts,

And move our hands

To recreate the country

We dream our children will inherit.

Amen.
