Prayer While Awaiting More Medical Tests

Written for someone dear who, after a mammogram, was told she needs additional testing — offered here, too, for anyone awaiting more medical tests of their own.
Makor HaChayim, Source of Life,
Be with me in this unsettling in-between,
when one phone call sets the mind racing
and suddenly “probably nothing”
feels like anything but nothing.
Quiet the questions that have no answers yet.
Slow the thoughts that rush too far ahead.
Help me stay here,
in this day, in this moment,
in what I know
and not in all that I fear.
Surround me with ahavah, love,
with koach, strength,
and with shalom, a sense of wholeness
while I wait.
Guide my doctors and technicians
with clear eyes, careful hands, and wisdom.
Shomer Yisrael, watch over me.
Let the news be good.
Let the images reassure.
Let uncertainty give way to clarity,
worry to relief,
and this breath held tightly
to a long, deep exhale.
Holy One, as You say again and again:
Imach anochi.
I am with you.
May I feel held by those who love me,
by the Jewish tradition I love,
and by Your Sacred Presence
that accompanies us always through the unknown.
Amen.
