It’s Been Weeks Since I Wrote ‘bout My Dad

It’s been weeks since I wrote ‘bout my dad They’ve been the weeks that I’ve just pushed on through Doing work, living life, passing time Not fully thinking, always thinking, of you In the weeks since I wrote ‘bout my dad I’ve enjoyed time in-between bouts of tears When I’m fully awake Quite alive, for God’s sake — Not lost in the sadness or fears Yet those moments that aren’t “in-between” Are those visits from a familiar new friend Who gives me a hug, shares a cry Reminds me ‘bout the what and the why His name is Mourning, and he’ll be with me ‘til the end In those weeks since I wrote ‘bout my dad The memories didn’t lessen, nor the pain Core-Strength holds me up straight As I live on and I wait Until Mourning comes to visit once again
