Resources after a Shooting: For Solace, Support, Action and Talking to Kids

We sent these resources to our congregation: From out of the depths, we cry out to the Source of Life. Mee ma’amakeem karatee Ya (Psalm 130:1) We are astounded that less than a week after writing you in response to the shooting in the Pittsburgh synagogue, that we are writing you again. This one-two punch reinforces worries about safety, about the randomness of life, and about the unconsionable gun violence that continues unabated. Our Or Ami congregants have expressed a range of emotions: feeling anxious, scared, angry, and bereft. Some have noted that while this scourge of violence is new to some of us, far too many have lived with this violence and hatred for too long. We hope this email provides resources, comfort and love. How hard this is. How painful. How much we feel powerless. How much we need each other’s hugs, love and strength. May we find the words to strengthen each other, console each other, and work together for real solutions.Zichronam livracha—we pray that the memories of the victims be, each of them, a blessing.
