A Prayer While Awaiting the Birth of a Grandchild

A prayer for grandparents-to-be in the hours of waiting before a grandchild is born.
Makor HaChayim (Source of Life),
We are waiting.
For the call.
For the text.
For the words, “The baby is here.”
Our hearts are already there.
Watch over our child,
The one we once waited to hold,
Who now waits to hold a child of their own.
Give them strength and calm,
And surround them with caring, capable hands.
Bless this little one,
Whose face we have never seen,
Yet whom we somehow already love.
Guide this baby safely
From the shelter of the womb
Into waiting arms.
Shomer Yisrael (Guardian of Israel),
Guard them. All of them.
Because from here,
There is so little we can do
Except wait,
And love,
And pray.
May the next message bring good news.
May the next tears be tears of joy.
Come safely, little one.
We are waiting for you.
Baruch Atah Adonai, shomer chayim HaM’vi-einu l’chayim.
(Blessed are You, Adonai, Guardian of life, who brings us into life.)
Amen.
